Albert Gómez, Lawyer of the Litigation area of Augusta Abogados, Ph.D. in Law from the URV

Albert Gómez, lawyer at Augusta Abogados and associate professor of Roman Law at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili of Tarragona (URV), has obtained the degree of Doctor in Law with the qualification of Excellent “Cum Laude”.

The defence of the thesis took place on 17 July in the Board Room of the Faculty of Legal Sciences of the URV. The Qualifying Tribunal was presided over by Dr. José Luis Linares Pineda, Professor and Chair of Roman Law at the Universitat de Girona. Dr. Carme Tort-Martorell Llabrés, Professor of Roman Law at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, and Dr. Juan Alfredo Obarrio Moreno, Professor and Chair of Roman Law at the Universitat de València, also formed part of the Tribunal.

The thesis was directed by Dr. Carmen Gómez Buendía, Associate Professor of Roman Law at the URV. The object of the thesis focuses on the examination of the judicial stipulations, procedural mechanisms promised by the parties in the apud iudicem phase of the formulary procedure, before the iudex privatus, and is carried out through the identification of the actions in whose proceedings they could take place. Likewise, the thesis reflects on the officium iudicis of the iudex and on the role of Roman jurisprudence in the creation of these specific procedural resources, considering the heterogeneity of the Roman judicial praxis.

At Augusta Abogados we are committed to the ongoing training of our professionals, many of whom are lecturers at universities and centres of higher education.

We are delighted to share our joy with Albert for the success of his thesis.

Congratulations Albert!
