The tech revolution – a threat to the core values of civil society and the legal profession?

Carlos Valls participated as panelist in the important Showcase sesión “The tech revolution – a threat to the core values of civil society and the legal profession?” which took place on Thursday, 11 October in Rome, also on occasion of the Annual Meeting of the IBA. The session finished with both an element of optimism and another of caution, with an important look at issues like accountability, reliability and bias, data protection and the potential impact of tech investment as an entry barrier. Carlos warned in particular that the promises of Artificial Intelligence should not go as far as having the effect of reducing the current perception of value of the services that lawyers offer, as if we were in a provisional imperfect period waiting for the advent of an new era where machines would do our work much better.
